Chinese mobile phone maker ZTE is intensifying into the US market by releasing its Salute handset on Verizon's network. The deal is the first mobile agreement ZTE has made with a top US wireless carrier.
ZTE is said to be in talks with other US mobile operators, including Sprint and T-Mobile to sell its devices. According to company executives, the Salute feature phone will be accessible for a two year contract of $19.99 per month.
The mobile phone comes with a 1.3 MP camera, 2.4″ 240×320 resolution screen, a 2.5 mm headset jack as well as downloadable games and wallpapers. The phone features a Social Beat application, which will allow users to access social networks like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace from a single interface.
The Salute also comes with Bing Search and turn-by-turn navigation functions. Speaking to Bloomberg, Jeff Ji, the ZTE executive heading the US division, said in a statement: “It’s a very good start. We are actively working with all tier-one operators in the U.S.”
