The Taiwanese manufacturer HTC recently released via T-Mobile its newest asset, the HTC HD7, also known as HTC HD3, one of the most powerful devices yet to use Microsoft’s WP7 platform. The Koreans over at Samsung on the other hand aren’t happy with just laying low and watching HTC take all the credit for newly launched Windows Phone 7 OS, so they came up with the Samsung Focus, a true competition for the HD7, launched just a few days ago from AT&T, on November 8th.
The HD7 has a very elegant yet friendly design due to its curved back which gives it a natural feel when held in the palms, even in the landscape mode which looks quite appealing for this enormous sized device. While HD7 owns the bigger screen measuring 4.3 inches, Focus’ 4 inch Super AMOLED display sounds more appealing, since HD7 brings a Super LCD capacitive touchscreen. Both devices start out as equals with Snapdragon processors clocked at 1GHz. While HTC HD7 packs 512 MB ROM memory and 576 RAM memory, Samsung’s Focus delivers 512 MB and 1GB respectively. As for the internal storage, HD7 comes with 16 GB non-expandable flash memory.
Both phones posses a 5 megapixel camera with Autofocus and LED flash, but again the Samsung Focus seems a bit ahead of the HD7. For instance, while HD7 sometimes struggles to get the white balance right, Samsung seems to have this problem quite nicely handled. On the other hand, the Focus may give users a hard time getting the settings right for darker environments.
The good thing though with these two Windows Phone 7 devices is the fact that the camera application loads pretty fast and captures are made just as fast with both phones. The video recording chapter sounds also disappointing for HD7.
