BlackBerry Torch 9800 Now Available

Tuesday October 26, 2010

RIM’s BlackBerry Torch 9800 is now available from today. It seems Phones 4U contacted the Electric Pig web site to confirm that they will be supplying customers with the new device from the 1st October.

For instance, you can get the handset for free if you take out a £35 per month contract lasting 24 months with Orange. Vodafone’s deal is £37.50. However both networks are also offering an 18 month deal at £40 per month.

The BlackBerry Torch features RIM’s latest BlackBerry 6 operating system, a 3.2 inch touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, GPS, BlackBerry Maps and Wi-Fi plus the usual efficient email and messenger service associated with the BlackBerry.

A recent review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 gave the handset a 4 out of 5 star rating, although the reviewer did say the handset was heavy. It also appears to grow by a third when the slider keyboard is open.

The microprocessor was also criticized as being less powerful than other smartphones. But the battery life was thought impressive.

In general, speaking in a press release the reviewer said “A powerful smartphone with an array of features and social networking facilities, we’re not sure the design will persuade ‘Berry users to swap their Bolds, Pearls and Curves.

“The five-megapixel camera is the best snapper to appear on a blackberry device with the flash in particular impressing.”
